The Ethiopian Women Researchers Network (EWNET)

The Ethiopian Women Researchers Network (EWNET) is a platform designed to empower Ethiopian women researchers in the field of peace and conflict studies. Established by the Rift Valley Institute’s Peace Research Facility, EWNET aims to create a supportive environment for women researchers to amplify women’s voices in social sciences and humanities, foster networking, share knowledge and promote excellence in research

The Peace Research Facility (PRF-Ethiopia) is a project implemented by the Rift Valley Institute (RVI) and funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom. It is now in its second phase (2024-2027), having completed its first phase (2022-2024). The Facility produces timely analysis and research on critical peace and conflict dynamics in Ethiopia to inform policy and programming by FCDO as well as a broad set of Ethiopian and international stakeholders.

Facilitate networking and collaboration

The network provides opportunities for Ethiopian women researchers to connect, exchange ideas, and collaborate on research projects.

Promote diversity of ideas

EWNET seeks to foster a network where diverse perspectives and experiences are valued, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of peace and conflict issues.

Enhance visibility

EWNET aims to increase the visibility of Ethiopian women researchers and their work, both nationally and internationally.

Supporting research by women

EWNET aims to support women’s academic research by providing non-financial support and guidance.

Facilitate knowledge synthesis and transfer

The network offers support in synthesizing research findings and disseminating them to relevant stakeholders EWNET provides platforms for sharing best practices, lessons learned, and research outcomes.

Rationale

The underrepresentation of women in peace and conflict studies is a significant challenge in Ethiopia. EWNET strives to address this issue by creating a dedicated space for women researchers to connect, learn, and contribute to the field. By fostering collaboration and providing support, the network aims to empower women researchers and enhance their impact.

Membership

EWNET membership is open to Ethiopian women researchers in the social sciences and humanities. The network only accepts individual memberships through self-nominations through the following link. The requirements for membership are as follows:
